5 new watches were introduced in 1994 after the company name was finalized to "A. Lange & Söhne". These are the 5 watches spoken of above:
Lange 1. Large date, 100 hour power reserve, PR indicator, and unique dial design.
Pour La Merite Tourbillon. Tourbillon, PR indicator, fusee and chain.
Arkade. Ladies handwound, large date.
1815. Simple mens dress watch, subsidiary seconds hands.
Saxonia. 1815 with large date.
The Lange 1
Their first watch released was the Lange 1, featuring an outsized date and a double barrel mainspring. This mainspring allowed the watchs power reserve 72 hours plus.
The sapphire glass back allows one to observe the the 3/4 plate. This plate anchors the movement leaving a cock for the fifth wheel and balance cock. Due to the extreme difficulty of this plate proceedure, this 3/4 plate was commonly found only in the high quality pocket watches.
CNC Spark Erosion technology is what makes the extreme precision possible. It can, by nature, only be performed in small production houses. To produce 6 plates takes from 30 to 90 minutes depending on the complexity of the custom shape. Thousands of these same plates can be produced every hour in conventional manufacuring factories.
The watch is available in pink gold, white gold, yellow gold, and platinum. And in two sizes: regular 38.5mm case diameter, and the Little 1 in 36.5mm diameter.
The Tourbillon Pour La Merite
The Pour La Merite (for the Merit) features a fusee in chain and a one minute tourbillon. The fusee in chain first occurance was in a wristwatch. Pocket watches are the most common occurances of this where more workable space is available due to the case structure in this setting.
when the mainspring barrel is being wound, the planetery gear system allows the fusee to maintain power to the movement. Maintaining the power mechanism allows the watch to run while being wound. And the balance endstones are diamond which keeps its status high. Also, the total assembly process of the Pour La Merites is performed by one master watchmaker.
The Arkade
Carries the Caliber L911. 4 baguette shaped hand wound movement
Only ladies model in the collection
Has the outsized date
Available in various combinations, with or without subsidiary seconds hand, and VVS diamonds encrusting the bezel.
Due to extreme complexities and difficulty, the Arkade is one of very few ladies watches that carries a fine mechanical movement.
The 1815
The original 1815 was introduced in 94 was intended to carry over the tradition line from the days of old Lange pocket watches. Its design, and dial layout follows strictly to those old designs. In 97, a power reserve indicator version was added to the series, and in Basel 99 a moonphase version was added.
The original simple watch (right), and the newer power reserve indicator (see picture left), and the latest moonphase in the middle. The 1815 is based on the caliber L941. The power reserve indicator for the L942 was inserted into the same movement without changing the overall dimension of the movement...that is, it retains it original diameter and original height, and hence the same case is used.
When the Moonphase was added in 99, the same caliber dimensions was kept.
Of particular interest on the 1815 moonphase is that the moon indication is accurate to 1 day in 386, 435 days (1058 years) of uninterrupted operation. Most high accuracy moonphase operate to only 1 day in 122 years. This watch was released in Basel 99, and it took the watchmaking world by storm with the precision in the moonphase indication.
In 97, a power reserve indicator version was added to the series, and in Basel 99 a moon phase adaptation was added.
When the Moon phase was added in 99, the same caliber proportions was reserved. Most high precision moon phase operate to only 1 day in 122 years. This watch was out in Basel 99, and it took the watch making world by storm with the precision in the moon phase indication.
And finally in Basel 2000, rose gold cases were introduced into the 1815 range, and the base 1815, and the Ab/Auf now is available in rose gold case. A straightforward, handwound watch, with large date it represents a dichotomy of styles...the tradition bound Lange style and workmanship with the large double date Walt Odets ode to the Saxonia is testament to its attractive splendor.
